A conference of Attorneys General from South Asia, South East Asia and East Asia is to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on the 19th of January 2015.

The event is being organized by the Attorney General’s Department to commemorate its 130th anniversary. A conference of Attorneys General was last held in Sri Lanka in 1984 as part of the centenary celebrations of the Attorney General’s Department.

The theme of the conference will be ‘Role of the Attorney General in a changing Asia’ and it will be held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.

Participants

Seventeen countries have so far confirmed their participation at the Conference of Attorneys General of South, South-East, East and West Asia to be held on the 19th of January 2015 in Colombo, to mark the 130th Anniversary of the creation of the office of the Attorney General in Sri Lanka.



The Minister of Justice of Mongolia, the Attorneys General of: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand, Maldives, India, Brunei Darussalam, the Prosecutors General of: Cambodia & Iran, the Procurator General of China, the Acting Solicitor General of Philippines & the Deputy Attorney General of Bhutan
 

Among the distinguished invitees for this conference will be: the Hon. Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, the Hon. Speaker, the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Minister of Justice, the Ambassadors and High Commissioners of the Foreign  Missions in Sri Lanka, the Hon. Judges of the Supreme Court, the Hon. President of the Court of Appeal and the Hon. Tour of Galle
17th January
 

 
On Saturday the 17th, the delegates will be taken on a day’s excursion to the scenic southern port city of Galle.
 
Whilst in Galle, they will be taken around the historic Galle Fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and will also have the opportunity of visiting other places of cultural and historic interest.
 

Cultural Event & Banquet Dinner
Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel - 18th January

On the evening of Sunday the 18th, a program featuring the cultural heritage of Sri Lanka will be held at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo.
 
The cultural show will include, among others, items by the dance ensemble of the three armed forces.
 
This will be followed by cocktails and a banquet dinner at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel.
 

Conference of Attorneys General

BMICH - 19th January 
 

The Conference of Attorneys General will commence on Monday the 19th of January at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), in Colombo.
 
The theme of the conference will be ‘Role of the Attorney General in a changing Asia'.
 
His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, while His Lordship the Chief Justice will be the Guest of Honour.
