Meeting with State Attorneys

A meeting was held on the 14th of August 2013 with all State Attorneys (formerly known as Crown Proctors) in the country who handle the instructing work in civil cases on behalf of the Attorney General. The meeting, which was held at the auditorium of the Attorney General's Department was presided over by the Hon. Palitha Fernando PC, Attorney General and was attended by over 45 State Attorneys. The Solicitor General Mr. Y.J.W.Wijayatilake PC, who is the head of the Civil Division, Mrs. Bimba Jayasinghe Tillekaratne PC, Additional Solicitor General in charge of the Court of Appeal Unit, Ms.Anusha Navaratne, Deputy Solicitor General in charge of the Civil Appellate High Courts and High Courts Unit, Mrs.Murdu Fernando, Deputy Solicitor General in charge of the District Courts Unit, Mrs. Kumari Gamage, State Attorney, Supervising Officers of the Civil Division, State Attorneys of the Attorney General's Department, State Counsel in the District Court Unit and Senior Asst Sttate Attorneys/Asst State Attorneys of the Attorney General's Department were present.

The aim of the meeting was to interact with the State Attorneys and to discuss the problems that are encountered by them and the officers of the Attorney General's Department in attending to their work and to find ways in which whatever difficulties could be overcome and the work carried out to the satisfaction of all parties.

After the address by the Hon. Attorney General, the Solicitor General addressed the gathering and later on an interactive session, presided over by the Solicitor General was held at which views were exchanged in a very cordial atmosphere.

The session was followed by lunch.
